Most Dangerous Sports on Earth

Many people have this extreme fondness on engaging to sports activities. Some says they feel the blood rush every time they do it and after winning. Others say they love the way their bodies move freely while their brains function heavily at the same time thinking of different techniques to win. However, some people are not satisfied with the simple sports that we usually engage in, some are in need of the danger, the thrill, some excitement and lots of fun. Maybe this is the reason why people came up with different sports that has the word “danger” along with its package. To sum it up, here is the list of what has been considered the most dangerous sports on the planet.
Counted in our list is Rugby. This sport can be considered as the most brutal contact sport because players tackle without any protection. This is why rugby has more injuries per player compared to other participation sport. Torn muscles, broken bones, concussion, etc… This is your price for playing this game. Next is Cave Diving; this goes as extraordinary because it involves diving in caves at the depth of 100 feet in a very dark area, considering that it’s very easy to lose your bearings or maybe encounter problems with air supply or be unaware that there is a very unique and vicious creature underneath it all. Reported cases of death were around 500 since 1960.
Unbelievably, cheerleading is part of our list. Talking about the US alone, reported injuries was up by 20,000 last year making it as the world’s most injury-prone sport for women. While fishing, as what we considered as one of our favourite pastimes has one of the highest mortality rates compared to other sports due to drowning (especially in rock fishing). Part of the list also is Rock Climbing, which has a record of 24 deaths in the US alone last year 2000. Maybe what added up the danger is that medical help is not easy to get when you are a thousand feet up and the chopper has nowhere to land.

All people are fond of something, and for sports enthusiasts, of course everyone has a sports icon that he/she idolizes. However, do you have any idea how much does the companies spend just to make these famous icons play and for you to see them in action at the court? If you do not, I will give you a pinch if information.
Talking about basketball, who would not know the name “Kobe Bryant”? However, does anyone also know that he has been the record holder of having the most expensive Basketball contract of all time? Therefore, he is like a luxury car for Lakers. His 7-year contract with Los Angeles Lakers was worth $136,400,000. Though he had been instrumental in leading the Lakers to 3 consecutive championships (2000-2002), the team have never won another NBA championship right after they decided to part ways with O’Neal in favor of Kobe despite the numerous awards and achievements he have received.
On the other hand, in the field of Auto Racing, no racer would forget the name Fernando Alonso. Even though McLaren has made him the highest paid driver, he still didn’t waited for the four year-contract to expire just to decide whether he would continue his career with McLaren or not. Being the third youngest driver ever to start Formula One Race, this man really rocked the road for $160,000,000.
While in the football arena, Michael Vick would be the most expensive player. At a price of $167,000,000, he had then signed a contract with the Falcons joining Tommy Nobis, Steve Bartkowski and Aundray Bruce.
You are not a baseball fan if you do not know or have not heard of Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees. Also known as, Mr. Yankee, the $189,000,000.00 paid athlete was the captain of his team. He has already played in nine All-Star games, has represented his own team, and was able to rank in the top ten production categories of hits, runs, and batting average where he was second, fourth, and a second placer respectively. On the other hand, his teammate Alex Rodriguez, has a rate way too better than his. This man rocks the baseball court by the price of $257,000,000.

HOCKEY had been one of the sports that everyone has looked after. The excitement, fun, and thrill of this game really encourages sports enthusiast to watch every event. However, does anyone know who are NHL’s best hockey players of all time, excluding goalkeepers which we think plays a very different role compared to a forward or a defenseman, and how they are known for this sport?
Maybe we will have a good start with the most popular player in the history of hockey. The Richard Riot, which was formed when Clarence Campbell suspended him in 1955, was the revolt by his fans in support of him. Maurice Richard was so unstoppable and set a very impressive record of being the first player to score 50 goals in a single season, within 50 games. He is also the first player to score 500 goals in his hockey life, finishing with 544, which is the most ever by a Habs player.
Taking the fourth place is Mario Lemieux. Talking about athletic ability, I can say that he is one of the best. An effortless and pure skill set, and the ability to dominate his peers is what Mario was known for. He has a record of scoring 690 goals and 1,723 points. Note that he had suffered from chronic back problems and has been battling with cancer during those days. In addition, despite the time he spent away from the game, he still managed to set that record, what more if he is not sick right? Included in the awards he has received was the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in two Stanley Cups. He also won 6 Art Ross Trophies, Hart Trophies, and the Calder Trophy, within 915 seasons.
When you say “Power Forward”, Gordie Hockey could never be left out. Rocking on the third place, he was an all time legend. With the record of 801 goals, 1049 assists, and a total of 1850 point, Gordie has been able to play in 1767 games in NHL alone, and has won six Art Ross Trophies and six Hart Trophies. At the age of 52, when he played with his sons Mark and Marty of the Hartford Whalers, he still managed to score 18 goals in the 1979-80 season.
Our first runner up would be no other than Bobby Orr, well actually, he would have been the world’s greatest hockey player if not for his chronically bad knees which has cut his very brilliant career. He was a record holder of 139 points by a defenseman, led the NHL in scoring two separate occasions still as a defenseman, and won eight consecutive Norris Trophies and three Hart Trophies. He even helped the Bruins in two Stanley Cups in year 1970.
Maybe everyone is curious who is at our number one spot. Well, it would be no other than Wayne Gretzky. With an outstanding record of 894 goals, 1963 assists and a total of 2857 points, this man really shattered the record book. He has been a leader in all major offensive categories whether a regular season or the playoffs. Blessed with an extraordinary vision on ice, he was one rare athlete who has the ability to make his team mates play better. No wonder he was called as “The Great One”.

The pride of the Philippines Manny “Pacman” Paquiao reportedly signed a contract with Hatton, and Ricky Hatton’s camp is now 99% certain that the Pacquiao Hatton fight will go ahead by May of 2009. This will probably be a good fight, since both fighters are known good fighters in the field of boxing.

After the said contract signing of the Filipino boxer, Hatton’s lawyer Gareth Williams is expecting a copy of the contract to be on his hands in Britain early a week after the signing. William said that the contract is already on its way to him and he is confident that it will be all right and everything will be fine.

Reports say that team Pacquiao wanted to renegotiate some financial terms and been the reason of the slow development of the contract. There was some feeling of doubt about the fight when the Filipino boxer was in silent and had not been responding to Hatton’s deadline for the signing. However, the 30 year old champ and currently reigns as the world’s best pound for pound fighter is now reportedly signed the contract and agreed the equal split with Ricky Hatton.

Richard Schaefer the Golden Boy Promotions chief executive who is negotiating on the Mancunian’s behalf is the ones who received the signed contract from team Pacquiao in the Philippines. Because of it, Hatton’s lawyer Gareth Williams said that Richard Schaefer surely got the contract already and he is already 9% sure that the fight will going to happen.

Regarding to the financial issues, Hatton’s team told the press that they never wavered from a 50-50 split, and considered the issues about them having different offers going out as nonsense. The team further added that they are only talking, reached with only one agreement, and didn’t offer for anything else.

Gareth Williams further said on Thursday January 22, 2009 that as for the time being, the Pacqiao-Hatton fight was dead in the water. However, the appearance of the signed contracts has forced them to reconsider. On the other hand, on Friday January 23, 2009, Pacquiao’s promoter the Top Rank had declared that the match was back on.

When the team Pacquiao did not yet sign the contract, the Golden Boy promotions already had started negotiations to some possible alternative opponents for Ricky Hatton and that include Oscar de la Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

However, sports enthusiast especially to boxing fans and the fans of Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton will have to worry no more and must ne excited already because the fight is already back on and is 99 percent possibly to happen this coming May of 2009. Surely, it will going to be another remarkable fight for both fighters for they both are reputable and known fighters worldwide. They maybe of different age and have different level of expertise, it will surely be a good fight. This fight will surely be another fight for Manny Pacquiao to prove that he deserves the title of being the pound for pound fighter in the world and for Ricky Hatton to prove that he has the ability to beat the Pacman.

See How Easily You Can Skateboard Like a Pro

Even if you don’t become the next Tony Hawk, a multi-millionaire with video games featuring you as the main character, you can learn how to skateboard like a pro. It is not impossible as long as you have a clear understanding of what you are getting into, and how long it could take. You can’t be impatient if you want to be at the top level of any activity, whether sports, career or hobby.

If you happen to love skateboarding, and really are committed to doing whatever it takes to skateboard like a pro, or possibly even become one, then read the following steps. There is no magic to it, and there really are no secrets either. And to clear up any possible understanding about the headline, you can easily see how to skateboard like a pro, as the title says. There are plenty of books and websites to show you, and it’s easy to collect as many printed or “virtual” lessons as you need to get going with your practice. However, it will not be easy to succeed at it, because anything good (and hard to do) takes time.

Now, it would take many thousands of pages of writing and diagrams to teach you the 180 ollie, a shifty ollie, a frontside 360 and all the other moves. You can get all of that information at your own speed, and when you’re ready. For now, we’re talking about the basic action steps and attitudes that will get you a solid start. And this much is true, also, that the more disciplined, motivated and passionate you are, the easier it will seem. Even when you’re doing hard work, you don’t mind as much when you are sold out on the goal you’re working toward.

Action steps to pro skateboarding

Practice – Sure, it should go without saying, but in this day and age people seem to think that reading “a” book or watching “one” skater video is all it takes. The fact is that it takes practice, practice, and more practice. And after all that practice, you have to do one more thing – practice some more. You should skate to work, skate to school and back, hit the skateboard parks as much as possible and take your board with your at all times. You should be prepared to get in some skate time anywhere that skateboarding is allowed.

Safety – Pros are smart enough to protect their heads and limbs. You must always wear a helmet and pads (knees, elbows, perhaps gloves, too). Since you are on a mission, you will be excited at what you’re doing and may forget that the major part of learning is making mistakes. Remember, making mistakes when learning pro skateboarding techniques means falling down. Since you’re going to experiment and try all kinds of new things, your need to protect yourself.

Watch videos, and make them, too – There are tons of YouTube clips and skateboarding videos to watch and study. Every one of the top pro skateboarders has videos, lots of them. While you’re learning all the moves, have a friend videotape what you’re doing so you can study yourself. Keep making videos as your skills keep getting better. Eventually, you may need to hire a real camera pro and editor so you can start posting your own clips online.

Attitude steps count, too

Have fun – You skateboard because you love it, right? If you are motivated by anything other than serious love of the board, you won’t make it to the top. And if that serious love of the board doesn’t have a big component of fun in it, you won’t make it even halfway. You won’t become a top skateboarder because you want a glamour life traveling around the world on your sponsor’s credit card. The joy in what you do, whatever it is, is infectious, and if you start moving up the ranks, it can make you really attractive to those sponsors.

First things first – Again, it seems like a no-brainer, but if you don’t have your priorities in order, you won’t make it. Practice, board knowledge, proper safety, correct exercise routines, healthy diet, clean living – all of this is part of the pro skater package. Keep things in order, and don’t forget that the only discipline that works is self-discipline. No one can do this for you, or give you what you have to practice for. The only way is hard work.

Stay balanced – Despite the fact that it is a hard road full of hard work and long hours and road rash and ankle sprains, you still have to keep balanced. Having fun, loving what you do, working hard, staying on track – all of these seemingly different things really can work together and get you where you want to go. It’s not easy to accomplish your dream, but it is easy enough to find out what to do. The difference with winners, as opposed to quitters, is that the winners take the difficulties as challenges to overcome, not obstacles to bounce off of.

Is it really you?

If you are really cut out to be a pro skater, you will be able to tackle all these steps and still be cool, still be yourself. Being centered and balanced, with family and friends behind you, is a powerful combination for success. These are the things that will help you in the long run and keep you going when times get hard, you become exhausted or you encounter new troubles along the way.

If you do start getting good, and standing out from the crowd skating around you, acting like you’re “all that” and being rude will only make you enemies. No matter how great your skateboarding skills become, there are always others who are just as good or better, so keep your ego in check. This is often difficult for young people who are also facing a lot of life changes during their teens and early 20s.

The bottom line is that you can learn to do anything you set your mind to, but you first have to find out if it’s “in your blood.” It needs to be more important than any other goal or activity if you want to work your way to the top of the pro ranks, and that’s true in business, entertainment and sports. For skateboarders working their way up, there will be dozens of moves to master, terms to know and techniques of their own to develop. With hard work and persistence, you really can do it.

Visit Skateboard-City.com to learn skateboardtrick tips for guides, stances, cool moves & old school. Talk to others who share your passion for the grinds, slides and mini pipe.

Steven Gerrard is September’s PFA 2UP Fan’s Player of the month along with Kightly, Beckford and Thorne
The Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard is September’s PFA 2UP Fan’s Player of the month. Even though the game has started late for Stevie G because of his injury,  the England international still managed to be in the second place in the Premier League table. Gerrard’s surprising strike in the first leg against PSV Eindhoven has proven of his performance returning to top form.
If we can recall, Liverpool’s club captain announced last September that Gerrard id only 70 to 80 percent fit from his groin injury but is already playing. Now that Gerrard is already backing at almost 100 percent to top form, Manchester must watch out.
Being the 16th Liverpool player who scored 100 goals for the club, Gerrard’s manager Rafa Benitez paid tribute to him and is expecting of him to continue and go for the 200 goals. Being one of the best offensive midfielder for the club, Gerrard is expected to give more score for them in the future.
According to the PFA deputy executive Mick McGuire, Gerrard is a man that needs not to be introduced. With this season, Gerrard had scored two goals in the Cahmpions League fixture versus Marseille. In addition, with their game versus Middlesbrough, Gerrard did a stunning shot from outside the penalty area. With these performances, Steven Gerrard is simply an excellent player.
Along with Gerrard, Michael Kightly got the fan’s player award in the championship. He, together with fellow wing wizard Matt Jarvis, became largely responsible for Wolves’ great start to the season.
However, it is very unfortunate for manager Mick McCarthy with his both star players Kightly and Jarvis who have both picked up hamstring injuries and will be missed badly, although Kightly will be out from the game not as long as with his pal.
Despite of being the most in demand player by a number of Premier League clubs during the summer, Kightly managed to sign a new four-year deal with Wolves and has already rewarded the team with eye-catching displays and goals with this season.
Another winner for this season is last year’s overall winner Jermaine Beckford is now the League One Player of the Month, again proving to be this season’s main man for Leeds.
According to the team’s boss, Jermaine produces a bit of magic in just a split second, which made them keep on emphasizing to Jermaine how far he can go and what more he can achieve.
For the last two years, Beckford was playing non-league football, during the last season he bagged over 20 goals, and manager Gary McAllister is hoping for Beckford to maintain such kind of performance.
Finally, Peter Thorne is awarded as the Fan’s Player of the month for League 2. Thorne at the age of 35 is still doing great fro his team Bradford, and did an impressive goal every two games ratio. Aside from Bradford, Thorne also did score goals consistently for his previous clubs like the Swindon, Cardiff, and Stoke and is still doing the same great things for the Bantams.
