Rooney won the Player of the Year

Wayne Rooney achieved the Professional Footballers association Player of the Year. The names of the other nominees along with Rooney were Cesc Fabregas, Carlos Tevez and Didier Drogba. But Rooney won the award and thus Manchester United won this award for four times in successive years.

Rooney is in incredible form in this season. He scored 34 goals for United and also scored eight goals for England. This 24 year old player can be the key player in this upcoming World Cup , not that it was a surprise - online betting had him as the clear favorite. Rooney was very happy after winning the Player of the Year Award. He said that he was very proud for winning this award. He also said that it was great since this award was voted by the players and thus players selected the deserving player.  Rooney won the young player of the year in the year 2005 and 2006.

Rooney has just come back from the injury of his ankle. But he could not play in the weekend where his team won the match against Tottenham by 3 – 1. Rooney is the top scorer of The Barclays Premier League with his 26 strikes. He hopes that he will return to the final of the United’s campaign to play against Stoke which is held in the next month. Rooney also said he is not worried about his injury and he is very much sure that he will be fine and fit in the world cup.

Rooney was the first man from English who won the Steven Gerrard award in 2006. He said that behind his career Sir Alex has an important role who has really played an important role when Rooney joined the United. For the award of PFA Young Player of the year Rooney was nominated but the award went to the James Milner.
